Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon announced today he is not seeking reelection.
"I made that decision for two reasons," Donelon said.
"The first is to remove politics from the vitally important upcoming legislative session, where many significant tissues are effecting our state and that future of our state's property insurance market will be debated and hopefully decides to improve that market," Donelon said during a news conference.
"The second reason is that I am, obviously, 78 years old and spent almost 50 years serving the public of Louisiana," he said.
Donelon said he is healthy for his age, and he wants to enjoy retirement.
