Louisiana AG: Appeals court agrees to limit 10 Commandments ruling

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill says most schools in Louisiana will still be required to display the Ten Commandments despite a federal judge's ruling to put the law on hold.

Murrill said the district judge's ruling only applies to school districts in which the plaintiffs attend classes: Orleans, East Baton Rouge, Livingston, Vernon, and St. Tammany Parishes.

Murrill filed a motion with the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to block the district judge's order that the ruling be applied statewide, which the appeals court granted.

"I look forward to immediately working with all of our school boards who are not involved in this lawsuit to implement the law soon," said Murrill. "This reaffirms that all Louisiana school boards not involved in the original lawsuit can move forward with implementing the Ten Commandments posters ahead of the January 1, 2025 deadline in accordance with the law."

Murrill's appeal of the district judge's ruling dealing with the five school districts is still pending.
