Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards announced today that starting Monday, March 29, every Louisiana resident age 16 and older will be eligible to get the coronavirus vaccine.

"Next week, Louisiana's slated to get more than 148,000 first doses, in addition to all the doses that will come as second doses," said Edwards.

It is the single largest allocation to date for Louisiana, and the governor decided that made it feasible to announce the state's final eligibility expansion.

"This is a little bit of a surprise to get here as soon as we did," said Edwards, who just last week said he did not expect this expansion to come until some time next month.

Edwards said it is important to note that only the Pfizer vaccine has been approved for people age 16 and 17.
