LSU President Tom Galligan this morning announced that two people in the athletics department are suspended without pay because of how they handled sexual misconduct complaints.

"We are imposing a 30-day suspension, without pay, for Verge Ausberry, during which time Mr. Ausberry will undergo required domestic and sexual violence training," Galligan announced at an LSU Board of Supervisors meeting. "We're also imposing a 21-day suspension without pay for Miriam Segar, who will also undergo required domestic and sexual violence training."

The suspensions came after the LSU Board of Supervisors received the findings of a law firm's investigation into the university's handling of sexual misconduct complaints.

The 148-page reports from the firm of Husch Blackwell includes detailed accounts of sexual impropriety, and found that the university's Title IX office, meant to enforce LSU's policies against such behavior, has been underfunded and understaffed for years.

LSU ordered the investigation after USA Today reported on how the school had mishandled complaints of sexual assault involving students.
