Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards says while progress is being made in the pandemic, there's more work to do.
"The public health emergency will be extended, but most of the remaining restrictions will be lifted, and that includes business capacity and crowd size guidance." said Edwards.
"Masks remain recommended, strongly ,for those who've not yet been vaccinated," he continued. "Masks will continue to be required on public transit, because that's a federal mandate, masks will be required in educational settings until the end of the current academic semester."
Starting with this year's summer programs, individual schools and school districts will be able to set their own mask policies.
Health care facilities, jails, and prisons will continue to require masks. Parishes, cities, and individuals businesses can set their own mask requirements.
