Louisiana’s unclaimed property program is now connected to a national database where you can check to see if you are owed money from one of 49 states (Georgia is not participating).
Louisiana Treasurer John Schroder said if you have lived in other places, you can check MissingMoney.com to see if there is anything owed to you.
“You can go on the site now, and check to see your old addresses in the other states you used to live in and check,” said Schroder.
Schroder added the site is especially convenient for military families and others who have lived in multiple states.
He said one out of six Louisiana residents are owed money, while nationally, it is one out of seven. Schroder says billions of dollars are going unclaimed.
“I had a lady call me yesterday, who lived in Louisiana today, and she wanted to make sure it was the real deal and she found some money for her dad in Mississippi,” Schroder said.
Schroder said MissingMoney.com is ad-free, highly secure, and is the only site approved by the 49 states. He says it also charges no fees.
“It will search the entire database and divert you to that individual state program,” said Schroder.
There’s also Louisiana’s LACashClaim.org, which holds over $1 billion worth of properties waiting to be claimed.
