Another Louisiana lawmaker is proposing to eliminate penalties for possession of marijuana. This time, it's a St. Tammany Republican.
"I brought it because when I was knocking on doors for my election in 2019, it surprised me how many people just in my very conservative district supported legalization," Rep. Richard Nelson (R-Mandeville) told WWL-TV.
Nelson's bill, HB 524, would give voters in each parish the choice of whether or not to decriminalize marijuana.
More than two-thirds of Louisiana respondents in a recent JMC Analytics poll favored legalizing marijuana.
