The latest data from U-Haul and Allied Vans shows more people moving out of Louisiana rather than moving in. It is age old problem new Governor Jeff Landry will have to confront.

"That's one of the big issues that the governor, all governors, have tried to confront," said LSU political science professor Robert Hogan.

Hogan says economic prosperity is not easy for a governor to grow in four to eight years, but it is something voters expect.

"The number of jobs produced, those kinds of things, is what make governors popular and successful in running for reelection. It's a difficult path ahead of him and its something certainly, it's a pressure that all governors feel," he said.

Hogan says that doesn't make Landry all that different from previous governors going back decades.

"How do you confront this outmigration, how do you bring economic prosperity? That is the number one expectation among the public," he said.

Hogan says voters want to see jobs, and new residents, added in the state, and it is probably the most difficult thing for a governor to influence.
