Rumors floating around school campuses and on social media say the state of Louisiana will close all schools after the Thanksgiving holiday.
These unsubstantiated allegations have become so persistent they caught the ear of WWL’s Tommy Tucker.
He asked State Schools Superintendent Cade Brumley point blank on his show.
Brumley fired back: “I’ve heard that rumor numbers of times. I have no reason to believe that is accurate as far as I know. Whenever we come back from Thanksgiving systems will be in operation.”
Brumley says his office doesn’t hold the power to call off school, that it resides in the hands of the school systems.
“Individual systems have set up their plans based on a phase one-phase two-and phase three,” Brumley says. “And they have the ability to toggle back and forth between those flexibilities.”
Rumors always get started with a misunderstanding of fact and spin wildly into wide ranging and fantastic, but completely without merit.
“We’re about 50% face-to-face, about 20% hybrid and 30% full virtual.”
But Brumley emphasizes, schools are not closing down.
