There’s a new lease on life for Louisiana’s “Shot for 100” program that’s meant to further encourage people to get their first COVID-19 vaccine shot. Assistant Secretary of Health Kim Hood says the program will now run through the end of the month.
“We’re going to extend it through November 30, that’s for the general public and also for our college students where we initially kicked off the Shot for 100,” said Hood.
The one hundred being a $100 gift card that will be given to those receiving their first shots, at least until the supply of cards lasts at participating locations.
Hood says that children 5 to 11 years old will also be eligible for the gift cards once the shots are authorized by the CDC with parental consent.
“They will absolutely be entitled to the Shot for $100 gift card. The Shot for 100 is available at participating community-based sites. You can go on Shotfor100.com to find out where the one closest to you is.”
Hood says that when it comes to children receiving the shots, the gift cards to be given out are per person, not per family.
“We expect parents will have more than one in that five to 11 group anxiously awaiting their chance to come get vaccinated so they can get back to safely hanging out with friends and family and they’ll all be eligible for that $100 gift card,” said Hood.
To date, about 20,000 of the cards have been issued to those receiving their first shots in Louisiana.
