There are more people eligible to get COVID vaccines today.

Teachers and K-12 school workers can now get COVID shots, as Louisiana officials want more school systems to make a complete return to the classroom for their students. New Orleans Public Schools partnered with LCMC Health-Children's Hospital to set up appointments for their workers.

Teachers alone account for tens of thousands now eligible to get vaccinated. Add to that all other K-12 school employees, and daycare workers, and that is a large group added to the vaccination list.

"Our goal is to get our students back in the classrooms safely and everybody healthy," said LCMC Health's Dr Amanda Jackson.

"We set up an online scheduling portal that a school administrator can go in and schedule appointments for the employees and teachers at that school."

Daycare workers, non-emergency medical transportation drivers, pregnant women, and people over 55 years old with certain health conditions can also now schedule appointments to get the COVID vaccine. Those conditions include cancer, chronic kidney disease, Down Syndrome, heart conditions, compromised immune systems from organ transplant, obesity, sickle cell disease, Type 2 diabetes, and smokers.
