Crossing party lines along with seven other Republicans Louisiana US Senator Bill Cassidy voted to convict President Trump of inciting a protest at the US Capitol that turned into a violent incident unlike anything that has happened since the War of 1812.
In a statement released by the Senator after the vote, Cassidy stated, “Our constitution and our country is more important than any one person. I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty.”
Despite having seven Republicans cross over to vote with Democrats the 57-43 vote fell way short of the two-thirds majority to convict former President Trump of the high-crimes and misdemeanors the impeachment set out to prove.
