Football season is rapidly approaching, and with hopes high that fans will be allowed back in stadiums at greater numbers than last year’s pandemic-affected college and pro seasons, United Airlines is hoping to target fans who want to travel to big games.
United is adding 52 new direct flights that will afford fans more free time between experiencing touch-down and cheering touchdowns, without having to worry about managing connecting flights or driving hours from an airport to their destination city.

LSU fans will get the benefit of a direct flight in November from Baton Rouge to Birmingham to see the Tigers battle the Alabama Crimson Tide.
As for Saints fans, no flights out of New Orleans to gameday destinations have been announced as of yet, but for members of the Who Dat Nation who may live in Packer country, United will offer a direct flight from Green Bay, Wis., to the Big Easy on the NFL’s opening weekend for the Week 1 matchup between the Saints and Packers.
So far, in addition to the Saints-Packers opening weekend affair, United has singled out three other early-season NFL showdowns: 49ers-Packers in San Francisco, Bills-Chiefs in Kansas City, and Tom Brady’s return to New England when the Buccaneers face the Patriots in Foxborough, Mass.
Meanwhile, a number of college games join Alabama-LSU on the United slate, including three that involve the Fighting Irish:
· Texas at Arkansas
· Nebraska at Michigan State
· Penn State at Iowa
· Alabama at Texas A&M
· Syracuse at Clemson
· USC at Notre Dame
· North Carolina at Notre Dame
· Notre Dame at Stanford
“Nothing brings people together like the opportunity to cheer on the teams they love,” said Ankit Gupta, United’s vice president of domestic network planning, in a statement. “This upcoming season, United is adding even more direct flights to college and professional football games than we’ve ever added before so our customers can reunite with the teams, tailgates and touchdowns they may have missed last season.”
