Violent crime in broad daylight across New Orleans

A woman and her young child were the victims of an armed carjacking Monday just after 5:00pm in New Orleans.

It happened in Mid City in the 3900 block of Bienville Street.


NOPD says the 33-year-old mother and the child had just returned to the vehicle.

"Victim in parking lot putting her child into back seat of vehicle... when armed suspect approached and demanded victim and child exit vehicle," according to a police report. "Victim complied and suspect fled in victim’s vehicle."

The report only describes the carjacker as an unknown black male.

Half an hour earlier an armed suspect robbed a man at the edge of the French Quarter and the Marigny.

It happened at Dauphine Street and Esplanade Avenue.

A 33-year-old man was the victim.

"Victim approached from behind by suspect carrying knife. Suspect demanded money. Victim complied. Suspect fled."

The police report lists the suspect as an unknown black male.

Around 2:00, about two miles away, a woman had her purse snatched.

It happened in the 2800 block of Esplanade Ave.

"Suspect snatched victim’s handbag and fled," the report says.

The report describes that suspect as an "unknown juvenile black male."
