A low pressure system in the northern Gulf of Mexico has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next seven days.

The National Hurricane Center says conditions for its development are only marginally favorable.

"It looks like strong wind shear is really going to prevent anything from organizing," said WWL-TV Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin, "and in fact, this should stay to our east."

The Hurricane Center says the system will primarily be a rainfall event for the Florida peninsula.

Elsewhere in the tropics, conditions are quiet.
