Look for mostly just scattered showers and storms today, mainly in the late afternoon and evening.
"Before it rains, we'll heat up to the lower 90s with a heat index around 100," WWL TV Meteorologist Payton Malone forecasts. "Most rain ends at night. Wednesday and Thursday look similar with a few scattered storms mainly in the afternoons."
He says things only change a little bit as we move into the weekend.
"At the end of the week, a front will slide into our area just in time for the start of September. Don't get too excited, though - no cool air is on the way yet. The front will likely just stall and help spark scattered storms through the weekend. You might notice slightly drier air, but that's about it."
Meanwhile, don't expect any tropical trouble in the near future.
Malone says, "We are fast approaching the peak day of hurricane season on September 10, but some great news for our area is that there are still no tropical threats at this time."
He noted that we have gone 58 days without a named storm in the Atlantic Basin. The record for days without a named storm during the hurricane season is 61 days.
"For the ninth week in a row, there are zero active storms in the Atlantic basin and no threats to our local area. There are a few spots to watch for development this week, but none is a threat to us at this time."
