Temperatures are expected to feel like triple digits, once again baking the Pelican State starting this weekend.

Louisiana State University Climatologist Barry Keim says there’s no true insight into the dome of high pressure that has parked itself over the south.

“I don’t know if there’s any great explanation for it other than perhaps maybe this El Niño may have its fingerprints on it in terms of changing the overall circulation pattern and creating this unusual setup,” said Keim

Keim says the entire state will likely see oppressive "feels-like" temperatures.

“The humidity is not off the charts high, but it’s still running high and we’re looking at heat index values between 110 and 115 degrees next week at times,” he said.

This stretch of hot weather will continue well into next week across the state. Keim urges everyone not to spend a lot of time outdoors when the heat index hits dangerous triple digits.

“The bottom line, we need to urge people to be smart, stay hydrated, seek shade, and avoid being outside at the hottest times of the day. And if you have no air conditioning take precautions and do what you need to do to take care of yourself,” Keim said.
