Florida Big Bend area in for rain, possible tropical weather

Tropics

Louisianans who evacuated to northeastern Florida to get away from Hurricane Ida should keep an eye on the forecast. The National Hurricane Center is giving a low pressures system currently south of Louisiana a better chance of becoming a tropical depression or storm -- 60 percent, what they consider a medium chance of development.

Whether it develops or not, the system is not expected to greatly impact southeastern Louisiana, but it could be a rainmaker for parts of the Florida panhandle east of Apalachicola.

"The system is expected to move northeastward through this evening, and a tropical depression could form before it reaches the northeastern Gulf coast tonight or early Thursday," said Hurricane Specialist Andrew Latto with the National Hurricane Center. "The disturbance is then expected to cross the southeastern United States and emerge over the western Atlantic late this week, where environmental conditions appear unfavorable for additional development."

Elsewhere in the tropical, Hurricane Larry is moving northwest in the open Atlantic Ocean. A tropical wave expected to emerge off the west coast of Africa has a lot chance of development.
