Fred makes landfall, Henri forms in Atlantic

Grace forecast to hit Mexico as hurricane

Fred

Tropical Storm Grace made landfall this afternoon near Cape San Blas, Florida, southeast of Panama City Beach. Its center crossed the coast with maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour.

"On the forecast track, Fred will move from western Georgia on Tuesday across the southern Appalachian Mountains to West Virginia by Wednesday," said Richard Pasch, Senior Hurricane Specialist at the National Hurricane Center.

In the Caribbean Sea, Tropical Depression Grace is skirting the southern coast of Haiti, and is likely to pass between Jamaica and Cuba tomorrow as it regains tropical storm strength. It is expected to say well away from the northern Gulf of Mexico.

"A mid-level high centered over the western Atlantic is forecast to build westward over the southeastern United States and northern Gulf of Mexico in the coming days," said the hurricane center's Robbie Berg. "This pattern should keep Grace on a westward to west-northwestward trajectory for the entire 5-day forecast period, moving across the northwestern Caribbean Sea, across the northern Yucatan Peninsula, and into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico."

Henri developed from Tropical Depression Eight. It is forecast to loop southwest of Bermuda then turn northeast and toward the open sea.
