We are just at the start of a long hot summer, so get ready to run the A/C.
The seasonal outlook from the U.S. climate prediction center is for a hotter than normal season.
"Forecast right now for this upcoming summer is hotter than normal, certainly not good news," said Louisiana State Climatologist Barry Keim. "They're predicting above-normal rainfall for most of the eastern United States, but not so much for New Orleans."
Keim says New Orleans is predicted to have normal summer rainfall, so it's not like we'll be in a drought, but those temperatures could soon be climbing into the mid to upper 90s.
"We will see some upper 90s, for sure," said Keim, and he says the days will warm up early.
"The morning is getting warmer faster than the afternoon high temperatures," he said. "We get lots of days where you wake up in the morning, you expect the temperature to be in the low 70s, and the temperatures 78, 79, or even 80 degrees on some mornings."
While temperatures of 100 degrees remain rare for us, the feels-like temperature will reach triple-digits because of our high humidity.
