The National Hurricane Center says the center of Agatha will approach the southern coast of Mexico make landfall in Mexico and move across land through Monday.
"Agatha is forecast to be near major hurricane strength when it reaches the coast of southern Mexico on Monday," according to forecasters.
The system is forecast to be downgraded to a tropical depression over land the next several days, but could grow again in the Gulf.
The Hurricane Center has posted a 30% chance of development in the Gulf over the next five days.

"Some gradual development is possible thereafter while the system drifts generally eastward or northeastward."
