
Hurricane Ida has weakened to top winds of 130 miles per hour, the lowest wind speed for a Category 4 storm. Its forward speed has slowed down to 10 miles per hour.
The storm is moving out of the coastal marshes and about to cross over more populated regions of Terrebonne Parish, moving northwest towards Houma. It's more powerful winds to the east of center still haven't reached metropolitan New Orleans.
"The hurricane should turn northward tonight around the western periphery of a deep-layer ridge near the southeastern United States coast," said National Hurricane Center forecaster Daniel Brown.
The storm will turn toward the northeast as it heads past Baton Rouge.
