Hurricane Lisa gains strength in Caribbean

The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Lisa is churning in the Caribbean Sea.

"On the forecast track, the center of Lisa will move just north of the Bay Islands of Honduras this morning, make landfall in Belize later today, and then cross northern Guatemala and move into southeastern Mexico by Thursday," according to a NHC advisory.

At 7:00am Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft found maximum sustained winds had increased to near 75 mph with higher gusts.

"Additional strengthening is forecast as Lisa approaches Belize. Weakening is expected after the center makes landfall."

While the forecast does take Lisa into the Gulf, WWL TV Meteorologist Payton Malone says it is no threat to the United States.

"Lisa will get shredded and will not make it up here," he explained.

Malone says, however, it is unusual to see not only Lisa, but also Tropical Storm Martin in the Atlantic.

"Quite active for November."

Martin is not a threat to any land.
