Just like that, 'fall' is gone

Don't unpack the sweaters just yet -- pleasant morning weather early this week has been a bit of a mirage hiding the true weather picture.

After sweating through July and August, few New Orleanians would complain even about "false" fall, and that's exactly what we got.

"Well, unfortunately, we're going to start to see temperatures nearing 90 degrees again," said National Weather Service meteorologist Danielle Manning.

Manning says while morning lows will be in the 70s, the humidity is back.

"There's a disturbance that's going to be moving through the northern Gulf, bringing some of that moisture back into the area," she said. "We actually have heat index values in the mid 90s, so it won't be quite as oppressive as what we've seen over the past several weeks and over the summer."

So at least it shouldn't feel like the hundreds.

There's no indication of when cooler, dryer weather will return, but on the bright side, the tropics are clear.
