The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Elsa has formed in the Atlantic.
Elsa is in the Atlantic, headed toward the Caribbean.
"On the forecast track, the system will pass near or over portions of the Windward Islands or the southern Leeward Islands on Friday, move into the eastern Caribbean Sea late Friday and Friday night, and move near the southern coast of Hispaniola on Saturday."
The Hurricane Center says after that Elsa could go to either the Gulf side or Atlantic side of Florida by Tuesday.
The forecast calls for Elsa to remain a tropical storm over that period and not become a hurricane.
"Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days."
It is too soon to know if Elsa could be a threat to Louisiana. If it were to head for the Gulf Coast, it would be a week or more from now.
