The National Hurricane Center is tracking Tropical Storm Lee, which developed from Tropical Depression 13 Tuesday afternoon as it moves west-northwest toward the Lesser Antilles.
Lee could be a major hurricane by this weekend.
"It is becoming a question of when and not if rapid intensification occurs with Lee," said National Hurricane Center Senior Hurricane Specialist Eric Blake. "There is increasing confidence on Lee becoming a very powerful hurricane by this weekend."
Lee is expected to continue on its west-northwesterly course for the next several days. Models show a turn toward the north could happen after this weekend, keeping Lee away from the U.S. mainland.
