Senate Bill 490 would increase Louisiana residential electric bills by about $16 a month by shifting grid infrastructure costs from large industrial users to households. Opponents call it an “electricity tax” and warn it mirrors partial deregulation policies that have led to higher rates in other states. AARP Louisiana also opposed the bill, saying higher bills would especially hurt seniors and families on fixed incomes. Brad Viator, President of Power For Tomorrow, joins Newell to talk about it.
