PALOS HILLS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A woman and a child were injured over the weekend when the carnival ride they were in malfunctioned in the southwest suburbs.

It happened at Friendship Fest in Palos Hills on Saturday evening. Police said a 40-year old woman and a six-year old child were among the people on a children’s ride called The Spinner when the pod they were in fell a few feet to the ground. The woman and child were taken to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. They had suffered minor injuries, were treated and released.

Friendship Fest resumed Sunday for its final day.

There is no indication yet what caused the pod to become detached from the ride. The Illinois Department of Labor, which regulates amusement rides, told WBBM Newsradio that The Spinner was inspected after the incident and that an accident report is still being completed.
