Portion of I-57 shut down for several hours following 7-vehicle pileup

COOK COUNTY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A seven-car crash that left one person seriously injured shut down a portion of outbound I-57 for nearly three hours Friday morning.

The accident occurred on outbound I-57 near the Cal Sag shortly before 8:30 a.m., Illinois State Police said.  Six cars and a dump truck were involved in the pileup.

The ISP said one person was sent to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers immediately closed all outbound lanes from 127th Street to Sibley Boulevard in order to clean and examine the scene.

All lanes were reopened just before 11 a.m.

Cause of the crash remains under investigation.
