CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Small businesses in the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhoods are trying a new way to entice Christmas shoppers: tongue-in-cheek 'Hers & His' holiday shopping nights.
“Her” night is Thursday night (Dec. 9) at 34 small businesses, according to Caroline Connors, executive director of the Morgan Park Beverly Hills Business Association.
Women are encouraged to visit the stores, do a little shopping and fill out their own wishlist card, which they’ll later give to the guys in their lives.
“His” shopping night is next Thursday (Dec. 16), Connors said, “where the gentlemen can take their partner’s wishlist and that’ll be a guide for them to do their shopping.”
Connors said it already looks as if the idea is proving to be a good one.
“We have heard from several people close to us that they really appreciate having a list to go from and being pointed in the right direction," she said.

She also said there’s another incentive for the guys to take part in the 'Hers & His' event.
“We’re having complimentary gift wrapping and one of the gift wrapping stations will offer spirit tastings, so they’ll have scotch and whiskey and tequila," Connors said.
Laura Hayes is co-owner of Haven 1890, which opened in October. She describes the store as a “sanctuary for home décor and more, because we’re located in an old church” on 103rd Street, a block west of Western Avenue.
Many of the businesses will offer free appetizers and drink samples. Haven 1890 is one of them.
“We’re going to sample our Western Avenue Wine Time, which is just a fun little frozen drink that we have,” Hayes said.

Joan Each Rowan, owner of the Everything’s Relative salon, plans to offer champagne, appetizers, and live entertainment.
“The people of Beverly are so wonderful to small business,” she said.
Rowan said her customers were so good to her and those who work in her salon during the pandemic.
Caroline Connors said she does not think any small business in the Beverly/Morgan Park area closed during the pandemic. In fact, she said, eight new stores have opened in the area since March 2020.
The 'Hers & His' events are this Thursday and next Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
