CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lori Lightfoot is welcoming a new, socially conscious, upscale food market and eatery to the Lincoln Park area, and owners said it will be a good neighbor too.

The man who brought you Mariano’s is opening Dom’s Kitchen & Market in the 2700 block of North Halsted.

The store features more than a dozen show kitchens that offer locally sourced groceries, a wine library, restaurant dining, and food delivery. Additionally, there will be a place called the Brew, selling coffee in the morning and wine in the evening; a place called the Heart, which sells made-to-order pizzas, rotisserie chickens, and roasted vegetables; a floral section, where customers can make their own flower bouquets; and more.

Co-founder Don Fitzgerald, a former senior executive at Dominick's, said the market will also help After School Matters and Lincoln Park Community Services.

"Dom’s Kitchen & Market will not only be your neighborhood table, but it also a pillar in the communities in which we do business," he said.

Mayor Lightfoot was effusive at the ribbon cutting.

"I just want to commend the leaders here for investing in Chicago, betting on this neighborhood, but also the great work that you are doing to support organizations, like the ones you have identified here this morning," she said.

"I am going to steal my own thunder. When we open up this Friday, we will be the largest big city in the country to be fully open."

Co-owner Bob Mariano said that’s how the company does things.

"If we don't each take the time to do something for our community, our neighbor, our friend that matters, we miss part of life," Mariano said.

The company plans to open 10 Dom’s stores in the next five years. A second store is planned for early 2022, though a location has not been announced.
