CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Blackhawks and Bulls begin their respective seasons this month. With a certain item, you can watch those games for free on your television.

An antenna will enable you to receive Chicago Sports Network (CHSN), the new television home of the Bulls, Blackhawks and White Sox over the air.

Carl Prouty, technologist with Abt Electronics says there’s no catch, you’ll just have to make an effort.

“Anyone can do over the air, it’s just a question of finding the right antenna,” Prouty says. “You don’t see quite as many as you used to. Back in the day, everybody had an antenna on their rooftop because that’s how a lot of people got their TV, but it’s coming back a little bit now because people are starting to cut the cord a little bit more.”

An antenna and a smart TV are compatible, Prouty says.

“Smart TVs don’t have an antenna built in, but everyone I’ve ever dealt with has a tuner built in, but to use that tuner, you need to have an antenna hooked up to it to pull in that signal for the tuner to decode and play on the TV,” says Prouty.

CHSN launches today and is available on DirecTV, DirecTV Stream and U-verse TV, and, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, is expected to appear on Astound RCN.

But, as of now, CHSN is not available on Xfinity.
