(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Illinois State Police (ISP) are trying to figure out how a driver on the Edens Expressway Tuesday morning ended up hitting a concrete barrier and what caused a gapping hole in the driver's neck and windshield.
Around 7 a.m., police said troopers responded to a crash on westbound I-94 near Winnetka Road. That's where police found a 35-year old driver in a Toyota RAV-4 bleeding from a hole in his neck.
Police said he was headed north on the expressway when he hit a concrete barrier.
The 35-year old was the only person in the car and the windshield was shattered. It's unclear what led to the hole.
State Police said anyone with information about the crash, including dash camera footage, are asked to contact State Police.
