CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago man has been accused of stealing laptops, which possibly contained confidential information on criminal cases, from the Cook County state’s attorney’s offices at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
The man was charged after a Cook County Sheriff’s Office investigation identified him as the person who was seen on camera removing laptops and other items from the courthouse offices back on July 23, 2024.
During their investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 44-year-old Jordan Jose Ocampo, and it wasn’t too hard to track him down.
Detectives learned that Ocampo had been detained in the Cook County Jail since Aug. 14 on unrelated charges of aggravated robbery, kidnapping and attempted criminal sexual assault.
Ocampo confessed to stealing the laptops and the other items — a lunch box and a secretary’s sweatshirt with a Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office emblem on it. Ocampo has now been charged with several more crimes.
Officials said Ocampo is expected to appear in court on Sunday.
