(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago Police Department has hired a Director of Wellness following a year when police say seven officers died by suicide.

The Director of Wellness is Aaron Chatman, who retired from the Chicago Police Department last year after 31 years of service.

Police spokespersons say Chatman was a supervising sergeant in the Officer Support System Unit and implemented a suicide risk-assessment program.

The police department released a statement from Police Superintendent David Brown, saying: “Director Chatman comes into this role with invaluable experience from his career within the Department and as a licensed clinical psychologist.”
