(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It’s that time of year again: the dreaded pothole season.

Bill Efstathiou of A1 Gold Coast Towing said he’s received a lot more calls for flat tires in the last few weeks.

“We have extremely more calls than usual — I mean, five to 20 calls a day for the flat tires due to the potholes,” he said Tuesday. “They’re everywhere, especially on Lake Shore Drive.”

Not only are potholes a nuisance on your car, they can leave a dent in your wallet.

Efstathiou says an emergency tire change can range anywhere from $85 to $95, depending on the car.

Chicago’s Department of Transportation said crews are out patching potholes seven days a week during the winter. The city’s pothole tracker shows hundreds have already been filled this month.

You can make a request for a pothole repair by visiting 311.Chicago.gov

In the meantime, Efstathiou said: “Just be careful out there and watch out for the potholes.”
