CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The famous Music Box Theatre, in Chicago's Lake View neighborhood, is getting some upgrades after nearly 95 years in business.
Known, in part, for its red curtain and starry ceiling, the Music Box Theatre is set for a facelift — one that will force the theater to close its main auditorium for three weeks.
From mid-August to early September, crews will tackle lighting, flooring and those infamously creaky seats.
While construction takes place, the theater will run movies in the smaller theater and outdoor garden patio.
Music Box officials said the new seats will have the same style, but with added comfort, including cupholders.
Seat sponsorships can be purchased for $750 each, which comes with engraved armrest plates.
