(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia’s campaign for Illinois Secretary of State is focusing on issues of access and equity as she tries to break out of a crowded field.
Valencia would be the first woman and first Latina to be Secretary of State, if elected, and she said she’d like to build on the legacy of Jesse White, whose retiring, but more can be done.
“There’s a lot of room for innovation,” Valencia told WBBM Newsradio.
Valencia said she would emphasize modernization. But as a Quad Cities native, Valencia said, she would make sure people from all over the state have a seat at the table. And as a Latina, she said she’d focus on access to services and voting.
Creating things like apps and digital driver’s licenses cannot leave people without high-speed Internet access behind.
Valencia is the guest on “At Issue,” which will air at 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
