CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A new shop in the West Loop is putting a unique twist on tattoos.

“We’ve created the world’s first tattoo that naturally disappears after about one to three years," said Jeff Liu, the CEO of Brooklyn-based Ephemeral Tattoo, which recently opened a studio at 1356 West Lake.

“It’s applied with tattoo machines by real tattoo artists with tons of years of experience,” he added. “The only other difference is they operate out of our own studios.”

Lui said growing up in a traditional immigrant household, where tattoos were out of the question, helped spark the multi-year mission to develop artwork that fades within one to three years.

“Our ink is composed of bio-absorbable polymers that start to break down as they’re exposed to water,"" he explained.

"It just brings people back more often and allows artists to continue honing their craft and trying new things. We’re just trying to lower the barrier so that more people can participate.”
