(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An 18-day strike is over for more than 2,500 Cook County government employees.
Members of SEIU Local 73 returned to work Tuesday after reaching a tentative contract agreement the night before.
The four-year contract includes an 8.5% pay increase over the life of the agreement.
The employees who went on strike worked for offices including that of the Cook County Board President, County Clerk, County Sheriff and Cook County Health.
“These are the essential, frontline workers that kept our county running during the worst pandemic of our lifetime who stood up for themselves, their families, and the communities they serve, during this strike to demand better,” Dian Palmer, SEIU Local 73 President, said in a news release.
