(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A weekend convention in Rosemont gives visitors the chance to score some new in — and a COVID-19 vaccine at the same time.

It’s the Chicago Tattoo Arts Convention at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Cente. More than 20,000 are expected to see some of the area’s top artists.

And, if they feel like it, attendees can get the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine against the coronavirus, courtesy of Cook County Health.

“Our flyers actually say ‘We know you’re not afraid of needles, come get a shot,’” explained Dr. Nimmi Rajagopal, associate chair of Family and Community Medicine.

“We figured it’s a great place to be,” she said. “If people are on the fence about it, they see us, they might say, ‘Hey, let’s get the shot.’”

With a rise in cases tied to new variants, Dr. Rajagopal said every vaccine counts.

“This convention is possible because enough people got vaccinated. It’s the only reason it’s possible,” she said.
