CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – While on patrol Sunday evening, a Chicago police officer heard multiple gunshots near East 79th Street and South Drexel Avenue in the East Chatham neighborhood.

He found two men exchanging gunfire and one of the bullets hit his squad car, sending glass flying into his face.

In addition to the officer’s injuries, one of the gunmen, a 42-year-old man, was shot in the knee and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he’s listed in good condition.

Two handguns were recovered from the scene, though it’s unclear if anyone is in custody.
