DARIEN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A shopping center in Southwest suburban Darien is getting a makeover.
The new owner of Darien's Chestnut Court shopping center is planning to redevelop the center. Darien Mayor Joe Marchese said the shopping center has had a rough few years, with up to 60 percent vacancy at one point.
Marchese said the buyer closed on the center at the end of October and that officials have met with the New Jersey-based developer at least twice.
“Our dreams matched his dreams. We’re going to have a shopping center that’s really a gem for the people of the city of Darien,” Marchese said.
Marchese said city council officials are planning to meet with the developer again before Christmas to discuss plans.
“He will have architectural renderings of the center that will have mixtures of housing, primarily two to three stories or four stories,” Marchese said.
