Beleaguered Dolton mayor preaches respect during confrontational village board meeting
DOLTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There was a meeting of the Village Board in Dolton Wednesday night. As has become customary, residents voiced dissatisfaction with the mayor.
One woman who spoke during public comment called Mayor Tiffany Henyard "an embarrassment" and said she should "step down."
She suggested Henyard congratulated President-elect Trump so she can "get out of jail."
Henyard has been accused of financial mismanagement. She has denied it. She answered her critics Wednesday.
"You have to give respect in order to get it," Henyard said. "A lot of you come to this mic talking about nothing, and, when I say nothing, you're talking about Tiffany Henyard…That means you really are fans of mine, and I appreciate that, and because, normally, you would come up here and talk about the business as it relates to our village. But, not one of you talks about any business that relates to our village."
Henyard, who is running for re-election early next year, said, "Just like Trump, I'm coming in on a landslide."
It was the first time in months that Henyard and the entire board took part in a meeting.
She's had frequent clashes with trustees.
