AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A driver in Aurora is dead after a car went off the road and flipped into an icy pond.
Police said officers responded to South Eola Road at about 12:30 a.m. and found the car submerged in a pond. Five officers went into the icy water to rescue the driver and retrieve the vehicle.
Officers were able to pull out the driver, who was then transported to a local hospital and eventually pronounced dead.
The rescuing officers who entered the pond were treated on scene and did not need added medical attention.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
