
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — This week, Evanston City Council members will vote to introduce a one year ban on new licenses for vacation rentals.
It would only apply to properties that aren't occupied by the owner.
However, three alders behind the proposal say that's enough to free up the supply of what they say is much needed affordable housing.
Airbnb currently has more than 200 properties listed in Evanston.
And while the city typically collects tax directly, it says some smaller sites don't always make those payments.
