(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Family members of a Carol Stream man shot and killed by police early on Feb. 3 have filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the city and the police force.

Carol Stream Police said two officers shot at 30-year-old Isaac Goodlow III while responding to a domestic violence call at the Village Brook Apartments.

Police officials say officers "encountered a tense, uncertain, and rapidly evolving situation."

His family has said Goodlow was sleeping when he was killed. They have viewed body cam video privately and have urged village officials to release it publicly.

"From what I've seen, he got ambushed," Goodlow's uncle, Henry Pigram, said Wednesday.

An independent investigation continues.
