ST. CHARLES, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A huge fire Sunday morning destroyed parts of a vacant resort in St. Charles.

The first report of the fire at Pheasant Run Resort located on East Main St was at 5 p.m., but firefighters remained on the scene late into the night Saturday as the flames destroyed several buildings on the property.

The Daily Herald reports onlookers gathered on Route 64 in front of the resort to watch the spectacle. The parking lot of a Wal-Mart across the road was packed with cars -- many there to watch the flames consume the resort.

There is no information on how the fire started yet or how much damage was done yet.

Pheasant Run shut down in March 2020 after a failed attempt to auction the property.
