For 2nd day in a row, massive fire erupts on West Side
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - For the second time in as many days, hundreds of Chicago firefighters battled a large fire at a commercial property on the West Side.
The second extra-alarm fire this week occurred in a large t-shaped building, housing three businesses at Grand and California.
Chicago Fire Department First District Chief Jim McDonough said this was a three-alarm.
"[There are] 200 firefighters at a 3-11 fire…about 40 pieces of equipment," McDonough said. "There's some of the same equipment that's here tonight that was also used yesterday [un]til three o'clock in the morning."
As with the fire that destroyed a pallet company on Tuesday night into Wednesday, the roof collapsed.
Everyone was accounted for. No injuries were reported.
The fire was out in about two-and-a-half hours.
