Gary mother believes son's social media post got him shot killed

GARY, IN. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The mother of a 13-year-old Gary boy who was shot to death in the middle of the day last Wednesday says her son's comments on social media got him killed.

Latrice Dodson said her son, Orie, was live on Instagram walking on a sidewalk and talking about someone who had recently died.

She told CBS-2 he was saying something bad about the person.
Someone related to that person saw the livestream was upset.

Her son was shot to death.

"All he said was words. He never touched or harmed anybody. He only said words, and words should not hurt people enough to where they want to come out here and kill people, period," Dodson said.

Her son's body was believed to have been on a sidewalk in front of a church in the middle of the day for about an hour before someone called police.

"Check your kids' social media and stop the live," Dodson said. "Even though Orie said whatever it is he said, he didn't deserve to be murdered. He was only 13-years-old."

The boy's murder remains under investigation.
